Zocalo was founded in 2012 by Olivier Van Horenbeeck.


Van Horenbeeck holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) with honors from the University of Antwerp. He interned at the European Parliament and then obtained a master’s degree in European Studies from the London School of Economics. Afterwards, he completed an Executive MBA at Vlerick Business School, followed by a management programme at Stanford University Graduate School of Business.


Initially pursuing a career as a corporate attorney, he worked as Counsel with a European employers’ federation. In 2005, he joined BNP Paribas Fortis. After an assignment in Singapore, he became the External & Governmental Affairs Manager. In 2009, he moved to Anheuser-Busch InBev, first within the Public Affairs department of the Benelux, later as Director Corporate Affairs at the EU level.

In 2012, he launched Zocalo, a strategic advisory firm, with several long-term corporate assignments for JCDecaux, Voka (Flanders Chamber of Commerce and Industry) and Sibelco, among others.

In 2014, he became CEO and founder of Viapublic, a boutique executive search firm based in Brussels, focusing exclusively on corporate affairs talent. Two years later, he was one of the two co-founders of Growth Inc., which helped companies and executives gain more influence with their non-market side (media, policymakers, public opinion, and NGO’s).

Since refocusing fulltime on Zocalo’s growth, Van Horenbeeck has led strategic projects in the Benelux, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the United States and the Middle East.


Currently, Olivier Van Horenbeeck is Chairman of the non-profit, A Seat at the Table. ASATT, a mentoring and leadership programme, holds networking activities for disadvantaged youth, students, and young professionals.

As one of the co-founders of Bepact (the Belgian Public Affairs Community), Van Horenbeeck is an active board member of several business and social clubs. He also serves on the Advisory Board of, a SaaS company that digitizes Physical Security Management to save costs and keep people and assets safe.

Van Horenbeeck lives in Antwerp, is married and has two teenaged sons. An avid reader and frequent traveler, he recently added cycling to his list of pastimes. Striving for the ever-elusive balance between a good glass of wine and a bespoke fitness experience.
